I’ve been thinking a lot about doubt this week so I wrote about it over on my blog. “Where is that doubt born? It bubbles up in some of the most courageous, inspiring people that I know, which is why it’s even more important to talk about it, to remind ourselves that we all experience it on some level. We are all afraid. We work in spite of it. We do the best we can.”

Along with @hello.soul.retreats, I am teaching a workshop in October called Awaken, all about reigniting your creative spirit. You might think to yourself “oh, you’re teaching a workshop on this, you must feel awake and creatively energized all the time. Here’s the inside scoop: I certainly do not. I regularly feel like I have to wake myself up, get past the obstacles, find new inspiration. But I know that I have to push past that. I know that I have to dive right back in even when the inspiration feels lacking. I know that I have to set aside time for creating. I know that I need to balance input and output. I know that I need to manage expectations. I know that I need to find that flow space where things start to feel less like a slog and a little more like magic. There’s no special trick, it’s doing the work, committing to the process and not the outcome.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” - Lao Tzu. I feel like I need this reminder this week, and maybe you do too. Let things be what they need to be. Tell the doubt that you don’t have time for it today. Let your words and mind flow. Get out of the way of yourself. Stay with what needs you but let yourself move on to whatever is next when the time comes. Allow yourself to flow. (Papercut that I recently did as a tattoo commission for someone and I keep looking at it, reminding myself of these words)
