October 19, 2019: Paper Trails, King’s Books, Tacoma, WA, 11am to 5pm

I will have original papercuts and prints at this cool yearly event hosted at King’s Books. There will be lots of other paper artists there, so come swing by. Details here.

November 2, 2019: Autumn Fika at In the Shed, Seattle, WA, 2 to 6pm

Artist and fellow food lover Karra Wise and I are hosting an extra special event at Karra’s pop-up space, In the Shed. There will be a full spread of homemade sweet and savory treats (yes, we’ll be abiding by the Swedish rule of “seven kinds of cookies”), inspired by seasonal Pacific Northwest and Scandinavian flavors. Tickets available here, and they include a copy of Fika: The Art of the Swedish Coffee Break and one of Karra’s ceramics.

November 6, 2019: Author Talk with Sarah Owens @ Book Larder, Seattle, WA, 6:30 to 8pm

Sarah Owens is a horticulturalist, baker and a cook with an insatiable curiosity for global food traditions. Her reverence for plants fuels her passion for bringing out their best flavors in the kitchen. Her new book Heirloom is devoted to ingredient-focused cooking and bread baking that emphasizes sourcing quality ingredients and relies on traditional techniques that extend the use of in-season produce and fresh food. Sarah is coming to the Pacific Northwest to celebrate the release of her book, and she and I will be in conversation at Book Larder. It’s your chance to meet Sarah, learn more about her work, and buy her new book.

Event is free! But make sure to RSVP.

November 7, 2019: Ampersand Live @ The Moore Theatre, Seattle, WA, Doors at 6pm, Show at 7:30pm

I’m joining an amazing bunch of artists and creatives for a live storytelling event put on by the innovative land trust Forterra. Tickets here.

November 12, 2019: Joy of Cooking new edition is out!

While I don’t have a specific event planned for the release of the 2019 edition of Joy of Cooking, I hope that you will preorder the book from your favorite local indie bookstore (mine is of course Book Larder, and they have signed versions) and raise a glass to this momentous occasion. John Becker and Megan Scott have done so much work on this edition, and it is truly the reference for the modern kitchen. I was honored to make papercut illustrations for the chapter headings in this new edition, a nod to the first edition which featured papercuts by Marion Rombauer Becker, author Irma Rombauer’s daughter.

December 4, 2019: Creativity Class, Papercutting 101, Book Larder, Seattle, WA, 6:30 to 9pm

We’ll be diving into the basics of papercutting, taking inspiration from food in honor of the release of the 2019 edition of Joy of Cooking. Every student will get a cutting mat and knife, so you’ll be well equipped to keep cutting once you go home. Tickets here.

December 11, 2019: Swedish Holiday Baking Class @ Book Larder, Seattle, WA, 6:30 to 9pm

This is an annual favorite and it fills up quickly. If you want to be alerted when the tickets go up for sale, please sign up for the Book Larder newsletter.
