“...while expressing gratitude seems innocent enough, it is a revolutionary idea. In a consumer society, contentment is a radical proposition. Recognizing abundance rather than scarcity undermines an economy that thrives by creating unmet desires. Gratitude cultivates an ethic or fullness, but the economy needs emotionless. The Thanksgiving Address reminds you that you already have everything you need. Gratitude doesn’t send you out shopping to find satisfaction; it comes as a gift rather than a commodity, subverting the foundation of the whole economy.”
Days are slowly growing longer, the sun feels warmer. It has been spring for a few weeks now, but I am only now starting to feel that same shift within. Ready for new projects, a new spark of energy that was previously elusive. Morning swims are still cold, but they feel different. They have made me notice the incremental changes every day. There are more blue skies, tiny green buds on the branches that once were bare and dark, the air has a softness to it.
We Are All Navigating: a new papercut inspired by a new podcast in partnership with @subaru_usa and @she_explores.
Today’s challenge is to sit on a stump in a forest, drink your coffee and stay there for a whole hour. An hour with a coffee and a good book would be a treat. With your phone it would be easy. But what about if you had nothing to distract you: how would you cope just sitting still for an hour?
Seeing ferns hug trees and new ferns spring from the ground after a long winter brings a lot of joy.
