sprudge-baking-hazelnut-and-chocolate-coffee-cookies-1-740x493

Last week I played around with hazelnuts, cocoa powder and coffee. The result was… addictive. The recipe is now over on Sprudge, so hop on over and bake away. Because who doesn’t like cooking with coffee??

Recipe: Almond Apricot Cookies

Almond-Apricot-Cookies

I was reading an article on Runner’s World about how the one failure of most runners when it comes to their diet is not getting enough “real food.” Yes, you read that right. Most people are so caught up in the world of energy bars and nutrient-enhanced drinks that they forget that their body needs actual food. You know, whole grains and vegetables and such.

This is nothing new, but it’s always nice to get a reminder of what a healthy diet looks like.

And on that note, I thought I would share my recipe for Almond Apricot Cookies with you. I posted it a few weeks ago on Foodie Underground, but given the recipe’s “natural energy bar” status, I figured it deserved a mention here. Especially since it has become a favorite post-run treat. (I like to call that strategy “run to eat”)

Yes, all you need is almonds, dried apricots, olive oil, honey and water. And some salt and ground cardamom if you’re in the mood.

Carrot Cake Cookies (Made with Almond Butter!)

with one comment

carrot cake cookies

I came up with a recipe for carrot cake cookies this week that involves no flour whatsoever. Nope, it’s all almond butter. The entire batch went in one day of course, but hey, you’re eating carrots, so who has time to feel guilty?

The recipe is over on Foodie Underground, but I can tell you it’s as simple as having some carrots and almond butter and a few spices on hand.

Happy Valentine’s Day. Give Love.

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.”

-Dalai Lama

Give love. Receive love. Share love. That is what we should do today and everyday.

(I also made heart-shaped scones in celebration – they’re gluten-free, vegan and super simple – just to bring a little more cheer into a gray and dreary February day. Enjoy!)

Recipe: Flourless Olive Oil and Sesame Seed Brownies

brownies (1)

With all this running lately, I have been craving anything loaded with protein. I can’t get enough of raw nuts and seeds. So it only made sense to make some brownies with them, right?

Recipe: Winter Squash and Kale Millet Burgers

A new recipe that I am in love with, this was originally posted on Foodie Underground.

I spent last Saturday morning at the local organic market. Unfortunately it was the Saturday after New Year’s and my favorite local producer wasn’t there.

“It’s France, aren’t all the market people local producers?” you ask. Well, you would like to think so. It’s romantic to envision all the Ile-de-France farmers descending upon Paris to sell their goods, a basket of local produce only a market away for the food lover, but the reality is that many of the markets are filled with distributors as opposed to producers, which makes it easy to get mangoes and pineapple in January in Paris and yet more of an effort to track down a locally grown potato. I exaggerate to make my point, but there’s an element of truth in it.

The Culinary Cyclist Cookbook: 3 for $20 Holiday Special

with one comment

CC.Buy Now.New.Holiday Promo

So this year I wrote a book, a cookbook actually, and it’s called The Culinary Cyclist. Yes, food and bicycles all together in one lovely REAL book (you know, those printed things with pages that you flip through?). Want one? You’re in luck. Through December 15, they’re on a little holiday special: 3 books for $20. That’s basically three books for the price of two. Snag a pack now: one book for you, one for your friend, and one that you can keep on hand until you have the “oh no! I forgot to get [insert name here] a gift!”

There’s a lot of good stuff in here, including recipes (all gluten-free + vegetarian) like Baked Egg in Avocado, Raw Walnut Butter and how to make cold brew coffee in a French press. In other words: you need this book.
